Government decides outcome from April’s smart meter consultation

Smart meter on shelf

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has published its decision to not require the smart meter Data Communications Company (DCC) to provide an enrolment service for the ‘first generation’ SMETS1 EDMI meter set.

BSC Panel to provide support to Smart Energy Code Panel

BEIS has also agreed regulatory changes on five separate topics related to the Smart Metering Implementation Programme, including a change to the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC) managed by ELEXON. The BSC change will require the BSC Panel to provide support and information to the Smart Energy Code Panel.

Changes to be implemented in September 2020

BEIS laid the legal changes to enact its decisions before Parliament on 18 June. The changes will be implemented in September 2020, subject to any objections by Parliament.
